These recommendations concern ZINOL; and ZINOTAN application for anti-corrosion
protection of embedded fittings, connecting and flexible parts of reinforced
concrete constructions of living and civil buildings.
Anti-corrosion composition ZINOL is one-package zinc-rich polymer-based
material. ZINOTAN is one-package polyurethane-based composition. Coating
is applied by traditional paint-&-varnish methods. Composition ZINOL
contains 83-85% (mass.) of zinc and has a high chemical resistance. In
order to protect metal structures and products made of carbon and low-alloyed
steel it is recommended to use ZINOL and ZINOTAN. 1. To protect embedded
fittings and connecting and flexible parts of three-layer wall panels
it is recommended to use ZINOL, total thickness 100 - 120 µm. 2. To protect
steel embedded fittings, connecting and flexible parts which are not welded
during construction, it is recommended to use composition ZINOTAN, total
thickness 100-120 µm. 3. At applying compositions ZINOL and ZINOTAN to
anchoring elements of reinforcement bars of any diameter or reinforcement
bars of die-rolled section it is necessary to employ additional measures
increasing anchoring of ferro-concrete bars (hinges on the bars ends,
w welding of anchors, etc.) Net consumption (not taking into consideration
application method, complexity and roughness of the surface) of composition
ZINOL with dry film thickness 30-40 µm is 0,26 kg/m2. Net consumption
of ZINOTAN for dry film thickness 40-60 µm is 0,25 kg/m2.
1. Surface preparation. ZINOL and ZINOTAN are applied to prepared
surface. Surface preparation includes:
Removal of dirt, friable and scaling off rust by scrapers, metal brushes,
etc.
Degreasing.
Removal of oxides to grade Sa 2 ? as per ISO 8501-1:1988. Surface can
be prepared mechanically to grade St 2 or 3 as per ISO 8501-1:1988. The
best result is achieved at blast-cleaning till metal surface roughness
is Rz ~20% of total thickness of the coating.
Time interval between surface preparation and composition application
isn't more than: - 6 hours outdoors ( if there is no moisture condensation
on the surface and it is not contaminated); - 24 hours indoors ( at temperature
not less than 200C and relative humidity not more than 65%).
2. Application of the coating. Compositions ZINOL and ZINOTAN
before application should be thoroughly stirred till full homogeneity
is achieved and there is no sedimentation on the bottom of the pail.
During application the paint should be stirred periodically in order
to avoid zinc powder sedimentation.
The compositions are ready to use and don't require additional dilution.
The paints are applied by pneumatic and airless spraying, by brush or
by roller.
To wash the equipment white spirit can be used.
Painting can be conducted at temperature from -1500C up to
400C and relative humidity not more than 90% (for ZINOL)
and 98% (for ZINOTAN). The coatings are cured by air-moisture. At temperature
+200C and relative humidity 65% drying time outdoors is 20-30
min. for ZINOL and 180 min. for ZINOTAN. Every next layer is applied
after the previous is fully cured. Time for application and curing of
the coating at the above-said conditions is 24 hours. It is admissible
to weld the products with one layer of ZINOL if the shop is ventilated
properly. After the welding is over, it is necessary to clean the seam
thoroughly and give it necessary roughness. The seam is coated with
ZINOL. If the ware with 2 and more layers of ZINOL are welded, it is
necessary to remove the coating from the edges, which must be welded.
3. Safety measures. ZINOL and ZINOTAN are toxic and fire-dangerous
materials, which is determined by the solvents in their composition.
At application of these paints it is necessary to observe safety rules
and regulations accepted in paint-&-varnish industry.
